Registered Nurse

Owakihi, Inc. is currently hiring for a Registered Nurse to oversee the medical needs of the people being supported in two ICD/DD programs in South St Paul, MN. The RN is is responsible for overseeing the day to day health care needs of approximately 26 people. This position does offer some flexible scheduling with the requirements of the nurse being onsite for 35 hours/week including one evening (up to 6:00 pm) and five hours of flex time.Some examples of responsibilities include:

  • Follow nursing duties and responsibilities as outlined by CMS for Intermediate Care Facilities
  • Quarterly physical exams, Quarterly Health Summaries and Annual Reports
  • Examination of any residents who have complained of, or been observed by staff to be ill
  • Follow up to ensure that all necessary medical appointments have been completed and appropriate treatment and documentation obtained, and that staff were effectively instructed and/or trained on appropriate treatment.
  • Will be available on an on call basis 24 hours to respond to medical emergencies and concerns.
  • Research and pursue the assistance of medical practitioners not previously available, when client needs indicate.
  • Seeks out and advocates for resident treatment options and alternatives, as indicated by client needs.
  • Keeps the medical information sheet current and up to date in the individual’s medical file
  • Prepares referrals for appointments and instructs staff on any relevant information that is needed prior to the appointment
  • Conducts or participates in ICF/IDD surveys and investigations providing expertise in the area of nursing and health care services.
  • Works to assure facility is in compliance with federal state and local standards and regulations.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the persons health care plan
  • Tracks usage and implementation of PRN’s
  • Ensures operation of medical equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements, following manufactures instructions troubleshooting, malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories.
  • Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, including the first aid kits.
  • Periodic observation of medication passing being made by staff
  • Quality assurance with medications/treatments and MARS monthly
  • Coordinate pharmacy needs and medication ordering
  • Ensure that assessments are conducted when an individual would like to start a self administration program and has been cleared by the IDT as well as the physician.
  • Development of behavior support plans with the designated coordinator and/or designated manager
  • Periodically reconcile the receipt and disposition of all controlled drugs in schedules II through IV
  • Perform quarterly audits of medical files and submit audit sheets to Designated Manager
  • May be scheduled on-site as necessary for building coverage

Applications must hold a valid RN license. Previous experience providing RN services in an ICF or residential services setting preferred. Applicants must have a valid MN Drivers License and the ability to be deemed “eligible” to provide services via a MN Department of Human Services Background Study.
